Power of the Cloud

There has been a big push over the past few years for “The Cloud,” and for a good reason.  The cloud provides instant access to the tools you need, the moment that you need them, as long as you have an internet connection.

Advantages of the Cloud

  • Multiple users are able to access information at the same time
  • Access to your data from around the world
  • Scale your storage based on your needs
  • Automatic backup
  • Quick deployment – no software installation needed
  • Automatic software updates
  • Integrate into current systems
  • No need for extra hardware to host servers

Multiple Users

Most software platforms allow multiple users, but there is typically a licensing fee per user.  With the cloud, you get the ability to buy user accounts in bulk for one low price.  Most cloud services are cross platform (i.e. Windows and OS X) and work across multiple hardware devices (i.e. smartphones, computers, and tablets).  This makes training easier as the appearance and functionality is unchanged across devices.  This can be a huge benefit in the production environment where the computer systems on the floor might not have been updated in many years.

Access your data anywhere in the world

The cloud is a term used to define software platforms hosted on servers for your use.  Cloud services can be used anywhere where there is an internet connection. In today’s world, with the advent of smartphones, that is pretty much everywhere.   With access to crucial information at any time, you are able to quickly make informed decisions that could impact your whole company.

Scalable Storage

Cloud platforms offer the advantage to increase your storage as needed.  With the click of a button you are able to add more storage capacity to meet your company’s needs without installing more hardware at your facility.

Quick Deployment

Software deployment can become a long, tedious process in a corporate environment.  Frequently, there are numerous computer systems on which software needs to be installed.  This can include many different types of devices from mobile to legacy desktop systems.  Typical software systems that require an installation could have issues with versioning and software compatibility. With web based cloud systems there are only two requirements: an internet browser and an internet connection.  Operating systems have no impact on cloud system functionality.

Automatic Updates

Software can be difficult to use across a company because of the frequent releases of software updates / newer versions.  Software needs to be updated on every machine for each update of every program.  If a user delays in updating their software, they might lose functionality or run into other issues.  By using a web based service there is no longer a need to update each device.  You can give all of users the newest version of the software at the touch of a button.

Integration

Cloud based software provides many opportunities to be integrated into current systems.  The cloud is an excellent tool for collecting and analyzing data.  This can allow your company to input data from your current systems to get mindful insights on how your current systems are working.

No Hardware

In the past, when new software was brought to a company it also included setting up a new server at the company’s facility.  This can create a large hassle for the IT department while also adding to energy, infrastructure, and environmental costs. With a cloud based software, no hardware is needed.

With all of the benefits of cloud based systems it may be time for you to make the switch.
